Frequently Asked Questions
What is TTSIDA?
Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association is a Non-Profit Association of Scrap Iron companies. Our focus is to implement and enforce systems, standards, policies and procedures that govern the industry, and work with Governmental organizations to further invest in and develop our members, and protect the rights of Scrap Iron dealers and the Scrap Industry in T&T.
What does TTSIDA do?
TTSIDA lobbies with the Government (our line Ministry is the Ministry of Trade and Industry) and other related agencies like EMA, SWMCOL, TTPS etc., to put policies and guidelines in place that our members need to follow, in running a profitable, environmentally friendly company that adheres to the laws of the land. Our Current President Mr. Allan Ferguson, as well as some key members, was involved in formulating the Policy paper that currently governs the Industry.
Who can join TTSIDA?
Anyone who deals in Scrap Metals in T&T; Scrapyard, scrap collecting vans etc., can join the association. Non-T&T companies can apply to become Honorary Members.
Why should I join TTSIDA, what are the benefits?
An organization is only as strong as its members. Joining the association ensures that your voice will be heard when issues arise that may threaten the successful running of your scrap Iron business. When the industry was being overrun by foreign companies and local members were facing closure the association fought and an agreement was reached between both parties. When members in Central were not granted their necessary license to operate, the association fought in the Court and won. When the Government instituted the need for a Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) the association held a Symposium inviting all stakeholders, and members were educated on the requirements and procedure to follow to qualify for said CEC. Joining this Association is in the best interest of a sustainable Scrap Iron Industry in Trinidad & Tobago.
